ILAC overview: Increase Lebanese Agriculture Competitiveness

The ILAC project was conceived on April 30, 2007, by arcenciel in response to the Ministry of Economy and Trade's (MoET) call for improving the agricultural industry in Lebanon. The 2-year project was funded by the USDA through the wheat monetization initiative in 2006.

 

 ILAC objectives

  • Assist in developing the Agriculture sector in Lebanon, and propose and establish big scale cropping alternatives.
  • Reduce poverty, create job opportunities in rural areas, and find income generating projects.
  • Spread extensive agriculture that suits both the market and the organic agriculture industry, using organic fertilization and limited usage of pesticides.
  • Develop agricultural markets and other projects for agriculture development and food security.


The project was set to Increase Lebanese Agriculture Competitiveness through the creation of "Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihood Unit " (SALU) in order to:

1- Increase the marketing potential of the agriculture products.

2- Increase the capacities of farmers and allow them to benefit from existing opportunities.

3- Increase the possibilities for farmers to access funds.

4- Strengthen efficient and harmonious cooperative work.
